What is an anode and why is it so important?
An anode is a protective element made of metal (usually zinc, aluminum, or magnesium) that protects the outboard motor and stern drive from galvanic corrosion. It acts as a "sacrificial" element – it corrodes instead of more critical metal parts of the engine, such as the propeller, gearcase, or engine block.

1️⃣ Before the boating season
The best time to replace an anode is when you're preparing your boat for the season – early spring. Check the anode's condition after winter and replace it if it's more than 50% depleted.
2️⃣ When the anode is 50-75% depleted
Don't wait until the anode is completely dissolved! When you notice that the anode has lost half or more of its volume, it's time to replace it. A completely depleted anode no longer protects the engine.
3️⃣ Every 6-12 months with intensive use
If you boat regularly, especially in saltwater, anodes deplete faster. Check them every few months and replace them at least once a year.
4️⃣ After winter storage in water
If the boat has been stored in the water over winter, the anodes may have significantly depleted even without use. Check them before the first outing.
